July 1 - Compliance Check for Self-Employed with Pension Plans

If you have a pension or profit-sharing plan, the due date to file Form 5500 or 5500-EZ for the calendar year 2024 is approaching on July 31. We recommend reaching out to our office early to verify if you're required to file and allow ample time for return preparation.

July 15 - Employer Mandates: Social Security, Medicare, and Withheld Income Tax

Employers subject to the monthly deposit rule must ensure deposits for Social Security, Medicare, and withheld income tax for June 2025 are postmarked by July 15. Nonpayroll withholding deposits for June 2025 are also due if applicable.

July 31 - Final Due Dates for Compliance

For Self-Employed Individuals: Finalize filings for Form 5500 or 5500-EZ.
Social Security, Medicare, and Withheld Income Tax: Submit Form 941 for Q2 2025 and resolve any pending tax deposits. If your total liability is under $2,500, ensure full payment accompanies a timely return. Timely deposited taxes grant an extended filing deadline until August 11.
Small Employers: Deposit any remaining taxes if liabilities exceed $2,500 annually but are under $2,500 for Q2.
Federal Unemployment Tax: Deposit owed taxes exceeding $500 accumulated through June.

Image 3All Employers: Those maintaining employee benefit plans, including pensions or profit-sharing, should file Form 5500 or 5500-EZ for 2024. Fiscal-year plan holders must file by the seventh month following their plan year's closure.

Special Considerations:

Weekends & Holidays: If a due date lands on a weekend or legal holiday, it is extended to the next business day.
