Working with us

Welcome to the Firm

A family firm on the border

Since 1991, Jimenez & Associates has been the accounting firm for small businesses across the Rio Grande Valley — restaurants, trucking and logistics, retail, construction, medical and professional practices, real estate investors, and the family-owned companies that make up the Valley's economy.

We do the everyday work well: returns filed on time, books that reconcile, payroll that doesn't generate notices, and someone who picks up the phone in July when the IRS sends a letter.

We're also known for something more specialized, and it grew out of where we sit.

The cross-border side

Brownsville is a border city, and a large share of our clients have income, property, or entities in Mexico. That work has its own set of problems — foreign entity reporting, FIRPTA, foreign tax credits, ITINs, nonresident returns — and most firms outside the corridor hand it off. We handle the U.S. side in house and coordinate with your accountant in Mexico on theirs.

If none of that applies to you, it doesn't need to. Most of our clients are ordinary Texas businesses. But it's the reason clients and attorneys from Houston, Monterrey, and elsewhere end up calling us, and it's the kind of work that keeps our technical bench sharp for everyone else.

What we do

Tax – Individual and business returns, quarterly planning, entity selection and S-corp elections, IRS representation and collections work, Texas Comptroller compliance.
Accounting – Monthly bookkeeping, general ledger cleanup and reconstruction, financial statements, and CFO-level advisory for owners who want more than a year-end conversation.
Payroll – Processing, deposits, and quarterly and annual filings, including after-the-fact cleanup when the year got away from you.
Audit and valuation – Audits, reviews, and compilations, plus business valuations for sales, buy-sell disputes, estate and gift filings, and litigation support.

Two firms, one office

Jimenez & Associates handles tax preparation and planning, bookkeeping, payroll, IRS representation, and business consulting.

Castro CPA Advisory, PLLC handles audits, reviews, compilations, and business valuations. It's a separate licensed firm, which is what independence standards require for attest work, and it's where our valuation engagements run — business sales, buy-sell disputes, estate and gift filings, and litigation support.

Where we work

Our main office is at 1160 Paredes Line Rd in Brownsville, TX. Most of our work is done remotely, and a good share of our clients are outside the Valley entirely — Houston, Monterrey, and elsewhere. If you'd rather come in and sit down, we're here.

Credentials

  • Certified Public Accountant – Licensed by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. Only CPAs can represent you before the IRS without limitation and issue audited financial statements.

  • Certified Valuation Analyst (NACVA) – A credential in business valuation, held to standards that hold up in court and in front of the IRS. It's what allows our valuation opinions to be used in business sales, buy-sell disputes, and estate and gift filings.

  • Certifying Acceptance Agent (CAA) – We verify your original passport and identity documents in our office and hand them back the same day. No mailing originals to Austin and waiting.

  • Members, AICPA and Texas Society of CPAs – Bound by the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct and required to complete continuing education every year.

  • Bilingual, English and Spanish – Including written work. Correspondence, engagement letters, and explanations of what the IRS is asking for, in the language you'd rather read them in.

What you can expect from us
Most people come to us because something got complicated, and what they want is a straight answer about where they stand.

We'll tell you what the exposure is, what it costs to fix, and whether we're the right firm for it. If we're not, we'll say so. After that: filings on time, books that reconcile, and someone who answers when the letters show up.
